What Now?

Have you ever thought about or even made plans for the last day of your marriage, or how you could finish well? We generalize our marriages thinking we have many more years together. We live subjectively in feelings and emotions thinking we can fix the marriage in the future. But the truth is you just don’t know. Today may be all you have, and you may not even have all of today. The most important day of your life and your marriage is, of course, the last day. And when it comes to marriage, so many couples are encouraged to invest so much time, energy, and money to get the perfect wedding, focusing on the first day. From the florist, to the caterer, to the photographer, to the attendants, to the attire, it is all about having a great first day. And it’s important and it’s a great gift to have a great first day, but the last day is the most important day. Few couples enter marriage thinking about the last day they will be together. Many young Christians don’t even realize the goal of the marriage is for both of them to become more Christ like. This only happens when the presence of the Holy Spirit is within each of them. Letting the Holy Spirit work with them, maturing each one so that the goal of Christ likeness becomes increasingly clear to them. When both partners make becoming more like Christ their individual goal, a strong, vibrant Christian marriage begins to take shape. Only then can you enter each day of your marriage being comfortable what if this was the last day of our marriage! What will the last day of your life look like? What will the last day of your marriage look like?
