The Sabbatical or Shemitah Year
God commanded the His people to take a Sabbatical Year every 7 years or a Shemitah year. The main point was an act of submission to God by his chosen people. This was given to the Jews and did not apply to the rest of the Gentile world. So, Moses was told by God on Mount Sinai to speak to the people of Israel - that they were to let the land rest and release all debts every 7 years. In other words, every 7 years all loans would be wiped out and crops would not be planted because this act proclaimed the Lord’s release. This is nearly an impossible concept for the modern America to grasp but it was God’s law for the Jews. The 7/26/2105 message will discuss a little of the history of the Shemitah year and what happened to the Jews when they ignored the Shemitah and touch on implications this may have for a Christian Nation.
